"We have already used the materials. I assembled all my high school students and we watched the movie and had a discussion using the teacher's guide. We will follow up with a field trip this week where we will be meeting with a traffic safety officer and trying out vision-impaired googles. I also hope to share the materials with our other four schools (we all belong to a private nonprofit). My ultimate goal is to have a full day of activities for all five schools to attend to learn more about driver's safety during the next school year. I have recieved a lot of free materials in the mail but this one actually amounted to something. The students were completely engaged with the DVD because it was pertinent to their lives and easy to relate to. Having testimonials by teens for teens made the material interesting and relevant. I recommend drawing on the students' own experiences when using these materials. They all have a story to tell and they listen to each other."
-Harmony Harrimon, Administrator, Wheeler Mountain Academy, Barton, VT
"Thank you very much for this very timely information. I do plan to use it in my class. We still have three more weeks of Driver's Education. I plan to have an assignment for the students in the class that will include a campaign to reach ALL the students on campus. They will add to the posters you sent that we will put around the school. Since the Senior Prom is soon, we will make daily bulletin announcements encouraging safe driving. One student would like to include vivid pictures of drinking and driving accidents. I'm sure there will be more!"
-Christine, Driver's Ed Instructor, Bishop Montgomery High School, Torrance, CA
"This is the first time I have received something for my curriculum that really excites me. I plan to hang up the posters around the school and emphasize to the students the important message the posters contain. I plan on using some of the supplemental material to send home with them when they finish the behind-the-wheel phase. I will also encourage them to share facts with their friends and relay some of the interesting information to their families. I look forward to implementing this into my curriculum. It will be something that will augment learning for all future classes."
-Patrick, Driver's Ed Instructor, Mt. Pulaski High School, Mt. Pulaski, IL
"Great additional information to add to my curriculum. I have already used it today in my driver education class. I teach six classes a year for El Dorado and 12 classes a year in my private driving school."
-V. Lamar Fairchild, Driver's Ed Instructor, El Dorado High School, Placerville, CA
"Having just completed the coursework for driver education certification, I was distressed by the statistics regarding young people and accidents. It is sobering when one looks at how dangerous driving can be for teens. The teen safe driver program will provide quality supplemental information for our driver education classroom. The resource handbook is especially effective in giving thought provoking information about teen drivers and their behaviors."
-Mark Chase, Driver's Ed Instructor, Portville Central High School, Portville, NY
"I am the Driver Education instructor at Hillcrest but I am also the parent of a 17 year old who is a junior here. I have seen too much tragedy dealing with teen driving. I want to encourage and teach safe driving skills and behaviors to teens. It will save lives."
-Karen Fielding, Driver's Ed Instructor, Hillcrest High School, Springfield, MO
"Thank you for the free resources. As our school district is a small, rural, high needs, low resource one, and since our student enrollment is low, I would like to preserve the life of every single student we have. We will never know the impact of our safe driving messages, but particularly during prom and graduation time, as the High School Principal I breathe a huge sigh of relief when I can account for all of my students after these special events and when I have not received a telephone call about any tragedies."
-Susan A. Hammond, Administrator, Ripley Central School, Ripley, NY
"After viewing the DVD, we all, students and teachers alike, will benefit from watching it. Showing and talking about this program will make a positive impact on everyone. I plan to initiate this program into classes that will focus on every student whether they have a driver's licence or not. Prom season and end of year parties are fast approching. I want to make sure they at least see the DVD before those events take place. Just maybe, I might help prevent a death or injury to my students or someone else."
-Melvin L. Clay Jr., Principal, Chico High School, Chico, TX
"This is an excellent program for young drivers. So many students do not realize the dangers on the road. They seem to have a 'Superman' complex. I discuss drinking and driving in my curriculum already. I plan to incorporate this lesson into the drinking and driving lessons. This is prom season and due to so many young people on the roads late at night I use the prom as a way to increase awareness of drinking and driving. Now I'll have this DVD to help promote safe driving as well. I am very excited about the new materials."
-Theresa Jones, Teacher, Sicily Island High School, Sicily Island, LA
"I will use the Drive It Right DVD in all my driver education classes. I will continue to invite professionals to come into classes and speak to my students (Police, Trucking Companies, Insurance People, and Organ Procurement Personnel). Drive It Right is very much up-to-date. Actual students are interviewed and filmed. The DVD is very pertinent and information is presented in a very worthwhile manner. Thank you for providing this."
-Gene Phipps, Driver's Ed Instructor, Bishop Luers High School, Fort Wayne, IN
"All seniors and juniors will participate in a program designed to increase awareness of the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. This will be timed to coincide with the Senior/Junior Prom. The local Police Department will provide personnel and materials to inform the students of the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and the county Sheriff's Department will pull a badly wrecked car to be parked in front of the entrance of the site of the prom. This visual reminder of the consequences of unsafe driving will be there for about a week. The local media will be made aware of the event."
